I remember interviewing Sue for a job at North Wilts. To say she was outstanding would be an understatement. She got the job and we then worked together for several years. Starting as a policy officer she rapidly expanded her role and responsibilities and became a Council Director. She had an amazing intellect but more than that she knew how to get the best out of people, whether they were part of her team, Councillors (never easy) or from external organizations. Everyone respected her. I remember her Alfa Romeo estate, always the subject of interesting discussions usually about which bit had fallen off most recently. I also recall the chats over a cuppa and her descriptions of Phil’s latest exploits on his bike, occasionally resulting in a rescue in the middle of the night. When she talked about Phil her love and admiration for him always shone through. She did sometimes try to explain to me what he did but I never quite understood it! She was a truly outstanding human being.
